Bharti Airtel Ltd. has shortlisted five companies for a contract worth more than $1 billion to provide technology outsourcing services for its newly acquired African operations, the Economic Times newspaper reported Friday, citing two unnamed people with direct knowledge of the matter.
The report said International Business Machines Corp.–which currently provides information technology services to Bharti Airtel in India and Sri Lanka–Hewlett-Packard Co. and Accenture PLC are among the multinational vendors, while Wipro Ltd. and Tech Mahindra Ltd. are the Indian vendors that have been shortlisted.
“Both Infosys Technologies Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. are no longer in the race,” the report quoted one of the persons as saying.
Bharti Airtel–India’s largest mobile services operator by subscribers–entered the African telecom market early this year after it acquired Kuwait-based Mobile Telecommunications Co.’s assets in 15 countries.
