Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

PROPERTY GIANT Ayala Land, Inc. plans to hike office spaces for business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the next few years given renewed demand, its top executive said.

More office spaces will be available in the next few years as Ayala Land taps provinces for further expansion. “An example is our BPO building in Iloilo and Bacolod [in Negros Occidental],” Ayala Land President Antonino T. Aquino told reporters late last week.

At end-2009, Ayala Land had a total space for lease of 347,000 square meters (sq. m.), of which 67% were occupied as of end-June, up from 58% in the same period last year.

Perriello gets frank about job outsourcing

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

In an exclusive interview with The Union Star (TUS) following his town hall last Thursday in Charlotte Court House, Congressman Tom Perriello spoke candidly about his year and a half yearlong introduction to the state capitol.

TUS: How hard has it been for you to adjust to the political life?

Perriello: Mind blowing! Soul crunching! It’s the most miserable job I’ve ever loved. It’s really amazing. It’s great to have the opportunity to help people but there’s a lot of playing games. We’ve got to get Washington to care about the average person. The legislative branch is a mess with its own ways of doing things…and everyone knows the squeaky wheel gets all the grease. It holds up progress.

Budget passes; outsourcing reduced

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

After hours of deliberation, the Somerville Board of Alderman early this morning approved a budget proposed by Mayor Joseph Curtatone that includes a modified “hybrid” outsourcing of school custodial services.

The revised $165,467,296 budget includes $40,000 in cuts made possible by wage concessions agreed to by non-union employees. A request sent to all collective bargaining units asking for a similar sacrifice was not granted, Curtatone said on Tuesday.

“We have received not a single offer of sustainable cost reduction from any of our collective bargaining units,” he said, adding that an offer submitted by the Somerville Municipal Employees Association to defer a portion of members’ wages could “hardly be considered sustainable.” The offer requires the funds to be repaid in full beginning in fiscal 2013.

July 4 holiday, a call of duty for BPO

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

CHANDIGARH: Globalization, or more precisely global commerce, has been throwing up strange choices before people who still hold their nationalism dear. July 4 would be one such day when thousands of business process outsourcing (BPO) employees in the Tricity may feel a little unconformable, maybe even embarrassed, holidaying on the American independence day.

As most of the business in BPOs across India is routed from the US, business compulsions have ensured that all those working in the outsourcing industry syncronize their schedule according to the US calender. So while August 15 or January 26 are working days for BPO employees even as the whole nation celebrates its patriotism, July 4 would be their day – if not of celebration then at lease chilling out.
