Perriello gets frank about job outsourcing

In an exclusive interview with The Union Star (TUS) following his town hall last Thursday in Charlotte Court House, Congressman Tom Perriello spoke candidly about his year and a half yearlong introduction to the state capitol.

TUS: How hard has it been for you to adjust to the political life?

Perriello: Mind blowing! Soul crunching! It’s the most miserable job I’ve ever loved. It’s really amazing. It’s great to have the opportunity to help people but there’s a lot of playing games. We’ve got to get Washington to care about the average person. The legislative branch is a mess with its own ways of doing things…and everyone knows the squeaky wheel gets all the grease. It holds up progress.

L&T Power to outsource parts manufacturing

Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro’s (L&T) subsidiary L&T Power plans to outsource equipment manufacturing activities at Hazira to meet rising demand for power equipment from power companies. “We plan to increase outsourcing of components and equipment needed for our supercritical steam boiler, turbine -generator facility at Hazira,” said L&T Power managing director and CEO Ravi Uppal.

The exercise will help us to reduce the cost of expanding the facility from estimated `1,500 crore to close to `1,000 crore, he added. The company plans to expand its equipment manufacturing facilities from 4,000 mw to 6,000 mw. The company commissioned the 4,000-mw facility for supercritical (main power equipment or BTG package) equipment manufacturing at Hazira this year with an investment of over `3,600 crore.

Toshiba, Sony and Fujitsu to increase notebook outsourcing to Taiwan makers in 2011, sources say

Japan-based brand notebook vendors Toshiba, Sony and Fujitsu are all expected to increase the ratios of outsourced notebooks to Taiwan-based ODM makers in 2011 in order to strengthen their product competitiveness, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.

Toshiba is likely to increase the outsourcing ratio to 80-90% in 2011, as Sony will jack up the ratio to over 90%, the sources noted. Fujitsu will also raise the outsourcing ratio in 2011. Fujitsu’s ratio of outsourced notebooks will reach about 50% in 2010, the sources noted.

NHS power shift heralds opening for outsourcers

Outsourcing companies are set to step in as the Government gives GPs the power to purchase patient care in the biggest reform of the NHS in 60 years.

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley plans to give family doctors control of about £70bn of NHS money to pay for services such as hospital care.

If the plans go ahead, primary care trusts – which currently pay for hospital referrals – will be scrapped. Instead, services will be procured by a range of GP consortia – thought to number 500.

Infosys BPO wins 2 NASSE awards

Infosys BPO announced that it has received two awards at SSON’s (Shared Services & Outsourcing Network) 2010 North American Shared Services Excellence Awards.

Infosys BPO along with its clients McClatchy and P&G were adjudged winner and runner-up and respectively under the category ‘Best New Outsourced Services Delivery (under 3 years)’ at the award ceremony held at Orlando, Florida.

Camerons set to outsource entire back office with Integreon deal

CMS Cameron McKenna is set to outsource its entire support staff function after signing an agreement with Integreon.

The UK top 20 firm’s staff were informed of the move in a series of briefings this morning.

Under the terms of the deal, Integreon will review Camerons’ entire UK back office function, including all support departments, to establish which parts can be transferred to a separate Integreon-run outsourcing centre.

XMG: Next president should focus on ICT policy, infrastructure
