Ayala Land to build more BPO buildings, cites demand rebound

PROPERTY GIANT Ayala Land, Inc. plans to hike office spaces for business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the next few years given renewed demand, its top executive said.

More office spaces will be available in the next few years as Ayala Land taps provinces for further expansion. “An example is our BPO building in Iloilo and Bacolod [in Negros Occidental],” Ayala Land President Antonino T. Aquino told reporters late last week.

At end-2009, Ayala Land had a total space for lease of 347,000 square meters (sq. m.), of which 67% were occupied as of end-June, up from 58% in the same period last year.

From burgers to cereals: BPO firm goes healthy

MANILA, Philippines – Convergys Corp. has started a nationwide campaign to make its employees eat healthy as regular mealtimes and high consumption of fast food, coffee and alcohol characterize the diet of workers in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

The company signed a “mutual wellness pledge” with consumer giant Nestle to implement its “Win with Wellness” campaign with the latter’s “Show off Your Shape” program.

Here, employees were asked to replace their breakfast and one other meal with whole grain cereal for 14 days, and to take snacks that are low in fat such as fruits, vegetables and yogurt.

Can the Philippines become the new regional center for MNCs?

Multinational corporations have located shared services facilities in the Philippines for three reasons, according to a recent study conducted by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) and Hewitt Associates. The number one reason is the talent profile, as survey after survey on the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry tells us. People are at the core of the Philippines’ success.

Incidentally, shared services is a subset of the BPO industry, although many of these firms prefer not to be lumped into the BPO category. Instead, they emphasize that their staff located in the Philippines are an extension of their head offices, noting that employees work directly for the company in full-time positions. They typically report to executives based not in the Philippines but in their world headquarters—except in cases in which global executives live and work in the Philippines.

IT, BPO firm expands footing in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines—A world-leading information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing services company on Wednesday formally announced the expansion of its recently opened global delivery center in Manila.

Cognizant , which employs some 200 professionals in Manila, said that the expansion would allow the company to accommodate as much as 600 more professionals.

XMG: Next president should focus on ICT policy, infrastructure

Thomson Reuters to expand legal BPO operations

Thomson Reuters, an information and media company listed on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges, is expanding its legal business process outsourcing
(BPO) operations in the Philippines to address the growing demand from US law firms for subcontracted research services.

At a recent briefing in Taguig City, Thomson Reuters formally inaugurated its new Philippine facility that will house its legal BPO operations, which currently employs 275 people.
