Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company, has partnered with a French non-government organization in their effort to further hone the skills of Cebu’s IT professionals.
Accenture Foundation recently awarded Passerelles Numeriques (PN) US$1.26 million or over P58 million funds for the latter’s Cebu System and Network Administration training initiatives.
The grant, which will be distributed over a four-year period, will be used to help disadvantaged young people from all over the Visayas acquire IT skills.

NEW DELHI: IT firm MphasiS on Tuesday announced the launch of a 500-seater Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) centre in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
To start with, the centre will provide services to telecom operator Idea Cellular.
The Raipur centre, to be part of a network of centres in the region, would work closely with MphasiS’s Indore Hub, the company said in a statement.

Last week’s U.S. government report showing an increase of 290,000 jobs in April brought some good news to tech workers as there was a sharp increase in IT hiring.
Perhaps even more important for tech workers, Dice.com, an IT jobs board, reported a sizable increase in the percentage of opportunities for full-time rather than contract workers.
In terms of the broader numbers, TechServe Alliance, an industry group that tracks month-to-month IT hiring trends, reported Monday that tech employers added 17,300 jobs in April, rebounding from a slight dip in March. Alexandria, (more…)

SANTIAGO, Chile and NEW YORK, May 10 /PRNewswire/ –As companies reduced their overall investment in outsourcing during the recent economic downturn, Chile bucked the trend and registered strong growth in global services revenue according to a recent “Chilean Global Services Industry Observatory” report from IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. While Chile’s 2009 revenue results are still being finalized, the country generated more than US$840 million in global services revenue in 2008.
“Chile’s global services industry has experienced tremendous growth in recent years,” said Nicolo Gligo, Executive Director of the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO) in the U.S. ”When compared to our own internal estimates from the previous year, IDC’s findings indicate that the industry grew more than 100 percent in 2008. NorthgateArinso is to strengthen its global position with plans to acquire the HR management division of US provider Convergys.
The transaction is worth approximately $85 million in cash at closing and $15 million in cash over three years. It involves NorthgateArinso acquiring the assets, including the global HR service delivery network and entire customer portfolio, of Convergys’ HR management division.
Convergys’ HR outsourcing customers will benefit from NorthgateArinso’s clear focus on HR software and services and from its world-class HR delivery capabilities. NorthgateArinso is known for its innovation in the sector, including the creation of platform-based HR Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

Realty major Ashar Group’s IT Park in Thane has bagged bookings from eight BPO players including leading player, Intelenet, and now plans to set up a four-star hotel in the vicinity to cater to business visitors of the Park.
“We have already got bookings from eight BPO firms, including Intelenet. This IT Park has the potential to generate around 12,000 jobs,” Ashar Group’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Ashar, told reporters here.

Leading BPO services provider Intelenet Global Services has said it plans to expand its footprint overseas and hire around 7,000 personnel in FY ‘11.
“The IT sector is expected to grow at 15-20 per cent and so is the BPO sector. With the US economy back on the recovery path, we expect double-digit growth as against four-seven per cent last fiscal. We are, hence, planning to expand our business and hire more people. We plan to hire 7,000 personnel across the country this year,” Intelenet CEO Susir Kumar told PTI here.

In a possible sign of a brightening economy, Omaha’s West Corp. will be adding 500 full-time jobs at one of its Omaha call centers.
The new positions come as the result of increased demands from several clients, including leading communications, medical and sports entertainment providers, West officials said. West’s Monday announcement said the jobs will be added at its facility at 9910 Maple St.
The Omaha-based communications giant said the positions would pay $9 an hour plus benefits, including paid training and a 401(k) plan.

PUBLIC sector workers who transfer to the private sector as a result of outsourcing agreements are under threat, warns an outsourcing specialist.
Steve Langmead, vice-president Scotland of IT firm Atos Origin, said outsourcing functions of local authorities and healthcare would be “inevitable” as the government attempts to find £3.5 billion in efficiency savings.
